I read Anne-Marie Slaughter’s cover story in the July/August 2012 issue of the Atlantic entitled “Why Women Still Can’t Have It All” Atlantic Article and I have this question.  Who really has it all?  Whether you are a man or a woman, let’s face it, nobody reaches the pinnacle of power and the upper chambers of business or government without having made sacrifices and more, importantly, made choices.  The issue is not about equality.  It is about choice.  Men have always had to make choices when it comes to work and family and women have to make choices too.  Let’s face it, if you want to play the game, you have to play by the rules or the rules have to be changed—but they have to be changed for everybody.  Let’s stop talking about how times have to change before women can succeed in business and start talking about how times have to change so that everyone, both men and women, can have balance in their lives.  For an interesting discussion on the health effects of balance see Arianna Huffington’s post entitled “BREAKING: Having a Family Can Be Good For Your Career” Having a Family.
