My very favorite TV show when I was a little girl was “That Girl” in which Marlo Thomas played the lead role of Ann Marie. The show ran on ABC from 1966 to 1971 (I must have watched re-runs). At the time I didn’t know that Ann Marie and Marlo Thomas were breaking through barriers and forging a path for what women are today. All I knew was that Ann Marie from “That Girl” formed the basis of what I wanted for my life. I didn’t want to be just a wife and a Mother. I wanted to be a career woman. I wanted to live in New York City and be an actress because that is where Ann Marie lived and worked. Sure Ann Marie was sometimes silly and always in trouble. But while Ann Marie was working through the stereotypes and realities of the past, Marlo Thomas was quietly weaving the future of the role of women in America with her character. Watch as Marlo Thomas speaks about her thoughts on life at http://www.makers.com/marlo-thomas?ncid=txtlnkusaolp00000046 and let me know what you think because that’s Evie’s Way, Baby.
